Eastward Ho! Chicago at Night

Last time, I chronicled my eastward trek from Omaha to Milwaukee. I didn’t film much in Milwaukee because, well, I was pretty emotional. In this next chapter of my journey, I elaborate on my Milwaukee angst. After 24 hours in Milwaukee, I hit the road at night and drove south toward Chicago.

I’d had no intentions of visiting Chicago on this trip. I knew I’d be driving through it, but I also knew it would be late at night and…well, what am I gonna do in Chicago at 10pm?

But as I saw the Chicago skyline forming before me, I felt this strong compunction to stop. How could I so flippantly pass up CHI-TOWN? Thank goodness I didn’t; my world was rocked by two incredible dudes that night. They later became the inspiration for a message I delivered at camp this summer.

Yeah. Love Chicago.

And now, I present Chicago…after dark:

Ever interact with the homeless? Have any stories to share?

I’ve had some conversations with the homeless here in Athens. It’s definitely an experience! I had about an hour conversation with one lady- for me, it broke my heart. The stories of how these people have been treated by family, friends, and even complete strangers makes you want to vomit. Makes me want to help these people out while humbling me about what God has given me. It’s because of this that I have had my youth group do a few service projects for the homeless- to open their eyes to the world around them and to light a spark inside of them to make some sort of impact.
