#RunningTo: Week 12 in Review: West Palm Beach, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, The Badlands

So, this last week of wandering was one of the most random and diverse yet. I flew to south Florida for my uncle’s wedding, then returned to my poor lonely car in Denver and resumed my road trip eastward.

I saw Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse, the astounding Native American rock sculpture that’s been in progress since 1948 (and still going!). I also camped in the famed Badlands just east of Rushmore.

Oh, and along the way I also did that #ALSIceBucketChallenge in middle-of-nowhere Wyoming. It was quite the week for wandering, let me tell you! Here are some of my favorite #RunningTo Week 12 moments from coast-to-coast.

#RunningTo: Plane
Catching a sunset in the skies en route to Fort Lauderdale from Denver!
#RunningTo: Stuart, FL
Upon landing in Florida, I promptly joined my aunt and cousin in a canoe and started rowing.
#RunningTo: FL Wedding
My father officiated for his younger brother’s wedding. Pretty sweet!
#RunningTo: FL Wedding
Bizarre how this picture originally came out this way. JOIN THE DARK SIDE, MY PARENTS.
#RunningTo: Tom Cat
My uncle’s 87-year-old adventure-seeking neighbor knitted me this “tom cat” after hearing about my travels. Grace is awesome.
#RunningTo: Grace
And here she is! AMAZING GRACE.
#RunningTo: Mount Rushmore
My beard: inspired my Lincoln.
#RunningTo: Crazy Horse, SD
The Crazy Horse model in the foreground; the still-under-construction mountain in the background. This thing will be incredible if it ever gets finished.
#RunningTo: The Badlands, SD
South Dakota’s Badlands are pretty BAD. And by bad I mean GOOD.
#RunningTo: Badlands
I had to climb this rickety ladder on one of my Badlands hikes. BAD. (GOOD.)

And finally . . .

#ALSIceBucketChallenge
This can only mean one thing . . .

Yup. I did it. I was nominated, and I caved. Here’s my #ALSIceBucketChallenge video in all its glory. BTW: how bizarre is it that my challenge took place in a town called CHUGWATER? Should I have drunk the ice water instead of dumping it all over me?

Have you taken the #ALSIceBucketChallenge? Comment with a link to your icy video of glory! Also, who’s your favorite Rushmore president? I’m going with Tommy Jeff because of his famed writer status.
